“It’s not easy to attract the right talents, even more challenging to keep those talents. So it’s very important to provide more learning and development opportunities.
We can organise more activities. For example, booking venues for sports, go fishing, squid-catching, BBQ, hiking, outing, picnic, one-day sightseeing, short trips etc. They can bring their family with them to some of these activities. This would give their family a chance to get to know their colleagues and strengthen their ties. Their family will then better support them in their work and their team. When they return to their workplace, the team members would be able to collaborate even more closely and smoothly.”
“If that could all be done, would that support your team to realize their full potential?”, asked Coach Michael.
“Oh yes, no double about it!”, exclaimed David.
“If they could realize their full potential, what does that mean then?”
“It means that this is a strong, united team with high spirits. They will support and encourage each other. They will work efficiently and achieve better results. They will also be happier. Our customers will be more satisfied. They will have a steady income and a growing career. The revenues and profits of the company will go up and the reputation will further improve. Yes, I like it.”
“When that happens, how would others see you as a senior manager?”
David pondered for a while, then said slowly, “They would know that I truly care about them. A manager who is committed to their development, building a stage for them to shine. Yet at the same time has a firm grip on the outcome building the company business.
I am like a lighthouse – showing them the direction; like a mighty fir-tree – they can lean on me when they need support or shade them from the scorching sun; like a candle – giving out light and warmth, lighting other candles to pass on the legacy.”
“Wow, that was awesome. David, I can see the vision you have of your team and your company. Like the lighthouse, the fir-tree, the candle, you are committed to cultivate your team and to include everyone. You have shown acute business acumen. It’s important to you to achieve success together with your team. You put your heart and soul into everything that you do to create a happy working ambience and a workplace that is full of energy and passion. You touched me with your commitment to yourself and to others. Thank you very much for sharing this wonderful experience with me.”
