利用平衡提高員工動力

  第二天下午,南施與李奧又見面了。

 

  李奧看起來比較嚴肅。

 

  「謝謝您用平衡輪讓我看清我目前的處境。來了兩個月,我鬱悶了兩個月。現在感覺好多了。昨晚想了一夜,主要是思索:留?還是走?若留,原因呢?如果選擇留下,需要做甚麼?

 

  我最後决定放下之前面試時以爲的一切,從新開始。因爲我的確有可能誤會了那位主管的意思。過去兩個月,我發現公司接到的項目比我想像中的大與複雜,其實是個很好的鍛煉平台。同事們工作也很有幹勁,要求也高。所以,如果我能够堅持下去,一定會學到很多東西。所以我决定把握這次機會,踏踏實實地努力幹一番事業。

 

  既然决定要留下來,我發現也需要公司的一些支持。」

 

  「哦,說來聽聽。只要資源與時間許可,公司願意支持你。」

 

  「老實說,平衡輪顯現的令我相當震撼。我原先以爲自己好掂,以爲我的工作主要是跟客戶打交道,開開會,打打電話,然後叫別人做事情就可以了。現在才發現要做好一個項目,我還有許多方面的能力有待掌握與提高。」

 

  「那你覺得有哪幾方面可以先開始?」

 

 

  「我認爲需要先學習製作電子甘特圖。如果我專心學習項目的各個流程作業與所需的資源,再找人培訓我基本步驟,我就能用電腦製作,方便整個項目組用。我計劃在一個星期內,將能力從現在的三分提高到七分。」

 

  「如果你能做到那一點,對其它方面可有影響?」

 

  李奧看著平衡輪想了一陣,然後很興奮地說:「那我在監督項目進度方面可以從五分提升到八分!」

 

  「還有呢?」

 

  「我與客戶的溝通,也會提高一分!」

 

  「所以如果你學會製作甘特圖,會有額外的好處?」

 

  「是的,是的。那我更加要努力,一定要在一個星期內學會!」

 

  南施注意到李奧的活力與動力加强了,然後繼續用平衡輪與他討論具體的行動步骤。

   Nancy and Leo met up the following afternoon.  Leo looked serious.

 

  "Thank you for using the balance wheel to help me gain clarity about my current situation.  I was confused and anxious for 2 months but I feel much better now.  For the whole night, I was thinking about whether to stay or to quit.  If I decided to stay, why?  And what would I need to do?

 

  Well, I now decide to start afresh.  I might have mistaken what that executive said during the interview.  From the last 2 months, I realized this company is able to secure large and complex projects, it would be a great training ground.  The team members are energetic and have high standards.  If I could stick around, I would be able to learn a lot.  So I made up my mind to give my best shot here.  But I would need some support."

 

  "Go on."

 

  "I thought I was great before we worked on the balance wheel.  I thought the job only required me to liaise with clients and I could just delegate the work to others.  Now I realized I still have some way to go before I can execute a project well."

 

  "Where would you start first?"

 

  "Learn how to use the software to create Gantt charts.  If I focus and learn all the activities and resources required in the process of our projects, and if someone could give me the basic training, I would be able to achieve that.  It would then be very useful for the whole project team.  I plan to get from 3 to 7 on the scale within a week."

 

  "And how would that impact on your other capabilities?"

 

  Leo stared at the balance wheel for a while, and then said excitedly, "Then I could reach an 8 on supervising the progress of the project!"

 

  "What else?"

 

  "I could also move up one point on my communication with clients!"

 

  "So you would enjoy other benefits if you mastered the use of Gantt charts?"

 

  "Yes!  Yes!  Oh boy, I must work harder!  I’ll give myself one week to achieve this!"

 

  Nancy noticed Leo’s increased energy and motivation with a smile.  Then she continued to use the balance wheel to work out the action plan with Leo.
