（O）沒有人對這件事有興趣

 

 

Example 1:

I had an idea for a waterproof storybook, but it didn’t have any legs. [=It remained an idea only]

我有一個退出「防水故事書」的想法，但沒有人有興趣一起發展。 

 

3. (something) does not have a leg to stand on

（X）未完待續

（O）沒有依據；無法證明；站不住腳

 

Example 1:

If you have no evidence, you don’t have a leg to stand on. 

如果你沒有證據，你就站不住腳。

 

4. have a leg up on (somebody)

（X）舉腳贊成

（O）勝人一籌、佔優勢

（To have a leg up means that you are ahead of others.）

 

 

Example 1:

The company has a leg up on the competition thanks to the recent publicity.

由於最近的宣傳，該公司在比賽中佔據了一席之地。

 

Example 2:

（在創業比賽裏，Candy和Angus討論競爭對手Peter的背景）

A: Do you know Peter’s father is a famous entrepreneur?

你知道Peter的父親是一位著名的企業家嗎？

 

B: Really? So he has a leg up on other competitors!

真的嗎？那相較之下他比其他競爭對手還佔優勢呢。

 

5. break a leg!

（X）扭傷腳

（O）祝好運

 

Example 1:

All you have to do is to relax yourself. You will be fine. Break a leg! 

你要做的就是讓自己放鬆，你會表現很好的。祝好運！
