2. (something) does not have legs
(X)沒有畫蛇添足
(O)沒有人對這件事有興趣
Example 1:
I had an idea for a waterproof storybook, but it didn’t have any legs. [=It remained an idea only]
我有一個退出「防水故事書」的想法,但沒有人有興趣一起發展。
3. (something) does not have a leg to stand on
(X)未完待續
(O)沒有依據;無法證明;站不住腳
Example 1:
If you have no evidence, you don’t have a leg to stand on.
如果你沒有證據,你就站不住腳。
4. have a leg up on (somebody)
(X)舉腳贊成
(O)勝人一籌、佔優勢
(To have a leg up means that you are ahead of others.)
Example 1:
The company has a leg up on the competition thanks to the recent publicity.
由於最近的宣傳,該公司在比賽中佔據了一席之地。
Example 2:
(在創業比賽裏,Candy和Angus討論競爭對手Peter的背景)
A: Do you know Peter’s father is a famous entrepreneur?
你知道Peter的父親是一位著名的企業家嗎?
B: Really? So he has a leg up on other competitors!
真的嗎?那相較之下他比其他競爭對手還佔優勢呢。
